Skidmore-Calibore, a bolt tension calibrator, works with various tools such as impact wrenches, manual torque wrenches, nutrunners, pneumatic torque wrenches, and hydraulic bolt tensioners. Originating in the 1950s, it sets the standard for testing high-strength bolts. Skidmore bolt testing, available from Skidmore-Wilhelm and Norwolf, is crucial for steel structures, offering Preinstallation Verification (PIV) and Rotational Capacity (RoCap) Testing. The Wilhelm-Skidmore Calibore boasts key features like a “Snap-in” front plate, adjustable reaction bar, dual unit gauge readings, sturdy gauge protector, and milled clamp for secure mounting. It also includes a labeled minimum bolt tension, wheeled carrying case, and lightweight design in 350 K and 1,000 K variants.

SKIDMORE CALIBORE
The bolt tension calibrator for all bolts using the following tools:
Impact Wrench • Manual Torque Wrench • Nutrunner • Pneumatic Toque Wrench • Hydraulic Bolt Tensiomer • Hydraulic Torque Wrench • Missing Link • DTI Squirters & TC break-off-bolts.
Skidmore first developed bolt tension calibration technology in the 1950s, and their units became the industry standard for testing high-strength bolts. In the same way that “Kleenex” became the generic term for tissues, “Skidmore” is the generic industry term used when referring to bolt tension calibrators. Today, both Skidmore-Wilhelm and Norwolf offer lines of bolt testing machines that are used for installations performed using manual, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic wrenches.
Skidmore bolt testing is required in applications such as steel buildings, bridges and similar structures. Skidmore bolt testing is performed for two main purposes:
- Preinstallation Verification (PIV) Testing, and
- Rotational Capacity (RoCap) Testing
